The South Downs way was a late addition for us, brought to our attention by Bear and Sassy. This is a rather old footpath that’s been in use for the last 8000 years (give or take). The official trail, created in 1963, is a mere 100 miles running from Winchester in Hampshire to Eastbourne in East Sussex. The Romans initially used the track until they built their own roads. The end is near Hastings, so we’ll drop in there for a spot of tea at the end of this first leg of our year.
