2017 El Camino de Santiago

2017 El Camino de Santiago

There were times along the Camino when we got tired of all the road walking.  Even though this is, undoubtedly one of the most popular trails in the world, it is not a true hiking experience but was started as a pilgrimage to St James.   We were both raised in Christian households, but we were not drawn to the trail for religious reasons.  This is the most social trail we have ever walked and we met many amazing people from around the world which we now call our friends.

One of the coolest aspects of this pilgrimage is that you develop a “trail family” that you interact with on a daily basis.  Our family now extends to 6 continents and over 30 countries.  Like all families, there are members you hope to never see again (I fill that role for the majority of the family–the blacksheep uncle/cousin) and there are members you are extremely close to.  The further we get out from the experience, the more nostalgic I feel for it and long to return.  Pam hasn’t gotten there yet because we still have so many other trails to hike.
