There are so many options for moderate length trails in Ireland. We chose the Kerry Way because it’s just a little over 110 miles in length and is probably the most popular signposted trail in Ireland. The Kerry Way passes through more than a dozen villages so there are ample opportunities to resupply or get a night inside when we get a bit ripe (or too soaked).
The Southwest Coast of Ireland gets the Atlantic weather first and hardest. We can, and do, expect to get a good amount of rain on this hike. Although the Kerry Peninsula has some of the highest mountains in Ireland, the trail avoids going over the tallest peaks and opts for some lower ridges along the mountains to allow for fast navigation through a variety of landscapes and historical sights. This is our first trip to Ireland so we’re not entirely certain about what to expect (other than consuming a fair amount of Guinness along the way).
